  1.     State Fair of Texas

The greatly anticipated State Fair of Texas is back this Fall, from Friday, Sept. 28 to Sunday, Oct. 21. Get ready for a flurry of fried food, carnival rides, Big Tex and live entertainment. Located at Fair Park, it is accessible by DART for those without a car. Tickets are priced at $16.50 online and $18 at the gate, but there are daily coupons to cut the price in half.

  1.     Dot’s Annual Oktoberfest

Come celebrate Dot’s Annual Oktoberfest on Sunday, Sept. 30 from 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. at Dot’s Hop House & Cocktail Courtyard, located at 2645 Commerce Street. There will be live German Polka music, a traditional Bavarian menu, and fifteen German beers on tap. A package including a beer stein, first fill free, and shirt is available for $30. Entry is free. 21+.

  1.     Dallas Stars vs. Colorado Avalanche

Hockey fans, the Stars are in town. They play the Colorado Avalanche on Sunday, Sept. 30 at 5 p.m. at the American Airlines Center. Subsequent home games will follow on Oct. 4,6, 9, and 13. Easily accessible by DART. Tickets start at $6.

  1.     Gelato Festival

Calling all foodies and UD Romers. Experience the world of gelato this weekend on Saturday, Sept. 29 and Sunday, Sept. 30 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Gelato Festival, located at the Dallas Farmers Market. Tickets include entry to the festival, cooking demonstrations, sampling, contests, and simply reveling in the greatness of gelato. Tickets are $25.

  1.     King Lear

A live film presentation of King Lear directed by Ian McKellan will be showing Thursday, Sept. 27 at 7 p.m. in nearby theatres. This Shakespearean tragedy is being captured from a live performance in London’s West End, and director Ian McKellan’s retelling has been reviewed as an ‘extraordinarily moving portrayal.’ The closest theatres showing the film are Cinemark 17 with IMAX at 11819 Webb Chapel Road, and the Vista Ridge Mall at 2401 S. Stemmons Freeway, Lewisville.

  1.     Deep Ellum Outdoor Markets

Head to the historical, trendy quarter of Deep Ellum for its monthly outdoor markets. Local artists, vendors, craftsmen and musicians will be featured. The Market takes place every third Saturday of the month from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. at 2820 Indiana Blvd.
