On fall reading day, Oct. 5, the Drama Department is turning the Braniff foyer into a massive theater for a staged reading of William Shakespeare’s “The Tempest,” featuring professional actors from the local Dallas theater scene to share the stage with University of Dallas students.

The professionals are veterans of Dallas Shakespeare Festival, Trinity Shakespeare Festival and Illinois Shakespeare Festival. This reading of one of Shakespeare’s most beloved plays is part of the UD Biennial Shakespeare Conference taking place on Oct. 5 and 6.

“Two years ago we took over Braniff foyer for a reading of ‘As You Like It,’ and it was a huge hit,” said Associate Professor of Drama Stefan Novinksi. “This year we hope to replicate the same fun and excitement … but with more crazy theatre tricks.”

Novinski will also be directing the reading.

Drama majors Nick Moore and Jackson Berkhouse are looking forward to participating in the reading.

I had a blast working with professionals for ‘As You Like It’ two years ago,” said Moore. “It’s a terrific opportunity to learn from people that have been doing this for years.”

“Working with professional actors is great because they have so much experience with the plays; their performances are so genuine,” Berkhouse said.

Stop by the Braniff foyer on fall reading day at 8 p.m. to watch this masterpiece take place.
