University of Dallas swim club has outstanding meet

The University of Dallas swim club had a great meet this past weekend, finishing fourth out of the 12 participating schools. This was the first meet of the season for the club, and there were several notable performances from the Muskies.

The muskie, short for Muskrat, is UD swim club’s unofficial mascot. The muskrat is a rodent similar to the groundhog that lives in the water.

Senior captain Joe Pelletier had a nearly spotless performance, finishing in first place in three swim categories and second place in a fourth. Pelletier won the 100-meter breaststroke (1:03.76), the 50-meter breaststroke (28.84 seconds), the 100-meter individual medley relay (57.45 seconds) and finished second in the 200-meter breaststroke (2:45.20).

“We definitely could have gotten top three at this meet if we had all of our swimmers there,” commented Pelletier. “I am very confident in this group; they are all eager to learn more about swimming and how to get faster. We have a lot of young talent in this freshman group, and I can’t wait to see them at the next meet.”

Minh Ly also had a solid performance, finishing first in the men’s 500-meter freestyle with a time of 5:43.50 and coming in fourth in the 200-meter freestyle with a time of 2:02.76.

In the women’s races, there were high individual finishes from Madeline Narduzzi, Giada Mirelli, Annie Marcolin and Luisa Velasco. Freshman Madeline Narduzzi finished first in the 100-meter breaststroke (1:18.56) and in the 200-meter breaststroke (2:59.96). The Muskies also took second place in the 200-meter breaststroke, as Giada Mirelli finished right behind Narduzzi with a time of 3:00.07. Annie Marcolin swam the 100-meter butterfly for the first time and finished second (1:15.80). Luisa Velasco finished fourth in the 100-meter freestyle (1:01.13).

The women’s 200-meter freestyle relay finished third. The team consisted of Madeline Narduzzi, Raissa Ly, Anna Townsend and Luisa Velasco.

The Muskies’ impressive performance showed that the swim club is a major competitor against opposing schools.
