We all love good food with a homey taste, but how many college students actually have the time, energy, money and appliances for a sophisticated, homemade meal?
Any stressed and destitute college student can throw together this quick, easy, cheap and savvy feast. It involves two mugs, a small mixing bowl and spoon and, of course, the microwave oven.
Meals in a mug
- Mug pizza:
Preparation and cleaning time: 10 minutes
Monetary cost: $3
Ingredients:
2 Pillsbury dough biscuits
1 tbsp tomato sauce
3 tbsp Italian 5 cheese blend
1 tbsp black olives
4 pieces of pepperoni
Directions:
Press 2 uncooked biscuits together with your palms and then press them into the bottom of a wide-rimmed soup mug. Cook for one minute with the microwave on the potato setting. The biscuits will rise and have bubbles — but don’t be alarmed. Press them down again into a crust. Add sauce, cheese, olives and pepperoni. Cook on regular microwave temperature for another minute. Enjoy.
- Extra decadent mug brownie:
This rich, deluxe chocolate brownie is a treat of the highest caliber — nothing like those counterfeits in the Caf.
Ingredients:
1 pouch Duncan Hines Microwave Decadent Brownie Mix
2 tbsp water
1 tbsp semi-sweet chocolate chunks
1 tbsp chopped walnuts
Stir brownie mix and water in small mixing bowl. Add walnuts and chocolate chunks. Microwave on regular setting for a minute. Bon appetit.
