Volleyball team sweeps a win

The University of Dallas Volleyball team (19-13, 7-9 SCAC) kicked off Friday night with a win against Johnson & Wales University in Denver, Colo. The Crusaders’ offense was led by Abigail Porras, with 13 kills, and Isabel Garcia, with 11 kills. The final scores of the three matches were 25-16, 25-23 and 25-17.

The Crusaders finished up their last regular season games on day two of the tournament. In their first game on Saturday, Dallas fell in three matches to Colorado College with scores of 25-19, 25-20 and 25-20. Colorado College is ranked 4th in the American Volleyball Coaches Association and first in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC). Dallas’ offense was again led by Porras, with 11 kills, and Garcia with 7. Senior setter Elizabeth Smith, with 19 assists in the match, surpassed Scarlett Walls for third place all-time career assists in UD history, totaling 2,709 assists.

Dallas ended their regular reason with a total sweep against Mississippi University for Women (4-22). The final scores were 25-21, 25-14 and 25-22. Ellise Anable had her sixth double-double of the season, with 12 kills and 14 digs, leading the Crusaders in both of categories.

Dallas currently sits in fourth place in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. The SCAC Tournament will be played November 2-4 at UD. The Crusaders will play 5th seed Centenary College of Louisiana at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
