Next year, students at the University of Dallas dissatisfied with current off-campus housing options will have another option within one mile of the university.

Irving-based construction company, JPI, is currently building the apartment complex, called Jefferson Texas Plaza. The complex will have 282 units available for lease in fall 2020, according to the company’s website.

JPI media contact Chelsea O’Neal said rent is expected to be around  $1,655 per month. The estimated rent is higher than the most expensive apartment in Tower Village apartments, but Jefferson Texas Plaza apartments will have high ceilings, spacious living rooms and balconies. Its community will feature a luxury pool, a coffee bar, private garages, a dog park and a fitness and yoga studio, as stated on the company’s website.

According to Google Maps, the commute from the apartments located at 2011 Texas Plaza Drive Irving, TX 75062 to UD would be five minutes by car and 15 minutes on foot. The apartments will be in the area behind the new homes.

JPI also stated on the website that the property will have a pedestrian trail directly connecting the apartments to the UD campus. However, Karin Rilley, vice president for legal and board services, has confirmed that UD has not been contacted by JPI or its representatives.

JPI is the top multifamily developer in the DFW area. The company has previously been involved in the construction of student housing, garden-style communities, and mixed-use high-rise development projects. On the JPI website, faithfulness and obedience to God appear at the top of a list of the owners’ values.

“I would live there depending on if I had enough roommates,” current Tower Village resident and UD junior Amandhi Mathews said. “I would be concerned about how to get to campus since I don’t have a car, and at least Old Mill is recognized by the UD community. I would also be concerned to live at the apartments since I wouldn’t be surrounded by UD students.”

“I like apartments in general,” sophomore Eve Low said when asked if she would live at the new apartments. “Anytime there’s room for off campus housing I’ll say ‘yay.’”
