This Friday, the Crusaders hit the road to face conference team Austin College. Though the game remained scoreless at halftime, Dallas triumphed with a goal in the 57th minute of play. Freshman Gigi Orozco assisted freshman Alyssa Mencacci in the first goal of her collegiate career.

Dallas outshot Austin College 26-7 with a strong team effort, including a number of shots by Monica O’Donnell, Orozco, and Mencacci.

Goalie Olivia Severson kept a clean slate for 90 minutes, notching three saves.

Following their victory on Friday, Dallas played non-conference team McMurray on home turf. Midway into the first half, McMurray picked up a goal. Late into the second half, the Crusaders landed a score again by Mencacci, this time assisted by freshman Izzy Barajas. The seven remaining minutes of play brought no further goals by either team, causing a draw.

“Sunday’s game was exciting because we came back from a 1-0 deficit and tied up the game with a great goal and had many opportunities after the goal,” Coach Lexi Stinson commented.

Orozco and Mencacci registered as Dallas’ top shooters for the second game in a row. McMurray outshot Dallas 20-16.

Goalie Natalie Kutac  had four saves, followed by Severson with one.

“This weekend we played two strong teams and they definitely challenged us,” Stinson said. “They were both incredibly hard working so it was great for our team to battle in both games….The girls fought for each other and showed a bit of what we are made of!”

Up next for the Crusaders: a game Friday at UD vs. Schreiner University, then Sunday at Concordia University.
