On Sept. 20, the University of Dallas Men’s Soccer team accomplished a solid 4-1 win in a home game against Schreiner University.

Dallas offense kept the Schreiner goalkeeper busy with 16 attempted shots and 3 goals delivered by senior Hunter Haugland and one by junior Chase Reynolds. Within the first three minutes, Haugland scored the first goal for Dallas, setting the team up for victory.

“The defense was solid,” said Freshman Patrick Hasson. “Our midfield was winning 50-50 balls, and our offense was on fire.”

Haugland scored his first goals of the season on Friday, finishing an impressive hat trick. It was the first hat trick performed by Dallas since 2015.

Goalkeeper Caleb Strange made three saves, keeping Schreiner from getting more than a single goal towards the end of the first half.

The team maintained “a positive and determined attitude,” on Friday night, said Haugland. After two losses the first week of September, the players had “a hunger to compete,” a drive which “allowed [them] to stay a foot ahead the entire game.”

“It is important to finish the weekend off strong,” said Haugland.

Dallas’ victory against Schreiner was the 150th win for David Hoffmann as head hoach.

After their win against Schreiner, Dallas faced Trinity University on Sunday afternoon in another home game. Trinity lead a forceful offense against Dallas, resulting in a crushing defeat of 6-0.

Trinity outshot Dallas 21-8. Five different players scored for Trinity, securing four goals in the second half.

Strange made five saves for Dallas during his 79 minutes in the game. Junior goalkeeper Sean Carlin substituted in for Strange in the last part of the second half, snatching one more save himself.

Reynolds attempted three shots for Dallas on Sunday. Haugland and senior Chima Ogueri each made solid shots, but the goalkeeper for Trinity prevented Dallas from scoring a single goal.

The Crusaders feel confident that they will recover from the loss to Trinity and prepare for their game against the University of St. Thomas this Friday at Houston Sports Park.

“While the Trinity game was disappointing, we’ve had a lot of injuries and I know that when we’re at full strength and playing well we’re as good as anybody,” said Hasson.
