UD men’s baseball sweeps Arlington Baptist University

The University of Dallas men’s baseball team had a successful home-opener series, winning all three of their games against Arlington Baptist University. With only one loss of the season so far, the team continues to build momentum both on the road and at home.

Junior Joe Vondracheck commented on the games, “Sweeping our first home series is great for team morale. It’s exciting to play with such a tight-knit group of guys, and we hope to be able to build off the momentum we’ve developed thus far.”

Pitching in the first game, senior Conrad Voss had an impressive performance on the mound to lead the Crusaders to a 4-1 victory over the Patriots. In the second game, senior Nathan Patton hit a home run to put the Crusaders in the lead, while junior Jaime Wallice did his part to secure the 8-4 win from the mound. The team went on to sweep Arlington in a 9-6 victory on Sunday, Feb 23.

“Overall, a win is a win and we got the sweep. We still have a lot to work on and have to clean up a lot of our mistakes,” senior Jake Schwartz commented on the game. “We’ve got a lot of tough games ahead of us in the coming weeks so we need to lock in and prepare.”

Although the team does not play a conference game until March, their success this month is sure to prepare them for a difficult schedule ahead.

“To us, every game is important. We treat every game as our biggest game of the year, no matter who we are playing. We’ve got a tough schedule this year and a chip on our shoulder,” said Schwartz.

With only one loss out of the team’s eight games already played, they hope to further their success as they head to Georgia to face LeGrange College for a double header this upcoming weekend, Feb. 29, at 1 and 4 p.m
