This was a busy week for the University of Dallas volleyball team. Not only did they have a home game on Wednesday against Arlington Baptist University, but they also celebrated Senior Night at their Friday home game against Dallas Christian College.
There were many familiar faces at Wednesday’s game. Both the women’s and men’s UD basketball teams showed up to support and cheer for the volleyball team. Athletic Director Jarred Samples was also in attendance in addition to some faculty members.
On Wednesday, the Lady Crusaders hosted a faculty night which brought in professors to support the team. The ladies put up a valiant effort Wednesday night, earning a win against Arlington Baptist University. The game featured many great plays by junior Larissa Ramirez, a setter for the team. Sophomores Abby Medico and Cassie Dyoub, playing outside hitter, made many kills during the course of the game.
On Friday, the team said goodbye to their five seniors: Dayjah Whyte, Rachael Firm, Ellise Anable, Isabel Garcia and Savannah Walker.
Senior Night had a great turn out as Blue Crew appeared in a show of support for their volleyball seniors. Members of other UD sports teams were in attendance as well, determined to send off their five departing volleyball seniors with as much enthusiasm as possible. The crowd was rambunctious and loud and was clearly so excited for the women to showcase their skills.
The game was dominated by the Lady Crusaders from the start. UD kept Dallas Christian College firmly at bay, sweeping the win in a three set match. The Lady Crusaders recorded their highest team hitting percentage of the season at .278. Dyoub and Whyte led all players in kills with eleven each.
After the game concluded, the underclassmen on the volleyball team gave gifts and farewell speeches to the seniors that were clearly heartfelt and poignant. The whole gym could feel the love and comradery that is shared between these talented women. It was a great game that commemorated the seniors and celebrated the impact they have made on UD volleyball.
The team has four more conference games in this season, so keep your eyes peeled for your favorite women’s volleyball team as they approach the SCAC tournament on Nov. 5 and 6.
