The women’s soccer team has been doing well this season, so far being ranked No. 3 in SCAC. The Lady Crusaders’ SCAC record sits at a comfortable 4-2-1 after their win against St. Thomas on Friday. With the season winding down and the playoffs quickly approaching, our University of Dallas women’s soccer team said a fond farewell to their seniors.
When asked about the rest of the season, Bridgette Alpar, a junior forward said: “I’m looking forward to playing our last few games with the seniors. They’ve done so much for this team so we’re going to work our hardest to win some rings and continue into the NCAA tournament.”
On Friday, the UD women’s soccer team put on a valiant show of effort, ultimately winning the game 3-2. The game was hard-fought, with the St. Thomas Celts putting up two goals in the first twenty minutes. Every game in the regular season counts, and the Crusaders were fighting for a spot in the postseason.
The Crusaders fought their way onto the scoreboard with sophomore Andrea Coppi scoring in the 22nd minute, followed by Andrea Soto’s goal in the 44th minute. The score sat 2-2 at halftime.
In the second half, sophomore forward Avery Seaman lobbed a shot from 25 yards out in the 57th minute, giving the Crusaders the lead. It was a defensive game after Seaman’s goal as the Crusaders maintained their lead.
In addition, UD said farewell to seniors May Lien Le, Monica O’Donnell, Maddie Rodriguez, Andrea Soto, Anisa Meza, Michelle Macintyre and Bekah Gonzalez.
Alpar said about the seniors: “I hope they know the impact they had on the team’s culture and the team’s success. They did so much for the program and their legacy will live on.”
To add to that, Kaitlyn Cline, a sophmore and forward on the team said, “Without these seniors, this program would not be the way it is now with the positivity, support, and family-like culture.”
To commemorate their seniors with an unforgettable night, the underclassmen gave heartwarming cheers and small gifts. Though the occasion is a little bittersweet since valued team members are leaving, there are nothing but well-wishes on the departing seniors’ future endeavors.
The team is happy to pay homage to its seniors who are departing and are excited to channel their excitement into a win on Sunday. The Lady Crusader’s last regular season game against Centenary College of Louisiana kicked off on Oct. 31, and they concluded their seasons with a 3-0 win. The Lady Crusaders are set to play Trinity University on Nov. 5 at University of Dallas in their first game of the SCAC tournament.
