Within the ranks of our Lady Crusader Softball team is senior business major Karina Campo. She started her college career in the fall of 2018 and it will come to an end this spring. Her college career has been phenomenal.
Campo has been playing softball since she was eight years old. She loves the feeling of peace whenever she steps out onto the field. She said: “I don’t have one specific memory [because] they’re all my favorite but I will say all the different families I am a part of because of the different teams I’ve been on. I have at least four different families not including my own”
Campo chose the University of Dallas for several reasons. One is the feeling of family. Her family has supported her and tried to push her to fulfill her dreams. Campo said: “My family is super supportive. My parents have always worked their hardest to give me every opportunity & they always have my back.”
Though the feeling of family played an important role in her choice to join the Lady Crusaders, she also wanted to secure her future. Campo said, “UD gave me the opportunity to continue playing the sport I love while also pursuing an education that is beneficial to my preparation for the future”.
Currently Campo is a business major at UD andplans on completing her masters soon. She said: “I am enrolled in the accounting 4+1 program at the business school, so after I finish my undergrad I will be continuing my masters education. Ultimately I want to become a CPA [Certified Public Accountant].”
So far in her UD softball career Campo has started 26 games. She has logged in 75 plate appearances and had 71 at bats. She has garnered 18 hits, which is the second-most at UD. She has generated an 11 RBI, which is the first at UD. She has smacked two home runs and walked four times. On top of that she has posted two doubles.
Though we will all miss Campo after she graduates, she has been an invaluable member of the Lady Crusaders.
