Letter from the Editor-in-Chief: Renaming the newspaper

Upon accepting the position as editor-in-chief last May, I decided that one of my main goals would be changing the name of The University News. Names are important because they are an indicator of the personality and nature of the thing being named, and they ought to be chosen with thought and care.

The University News does not indicate anything about the character of the University of Dallas. When viewing our webpage or picking up an issue from a newsstand, readers cannot tell that the paper they’re reading is from UD just by reading the name on the top of the page.

Therefore, my editorial team and I are starting an initiative to rename the paper. We want a name that is representative of the student body, traditions and uniqueness of our beloved university and we want you to be involved. I encourage everyone to submit name suggestions, anything that you think encapsulates what it’s like being a UD student. If we pick your suggestion, I hope to have some sort of prize and recognition.

I am always around to hear your thoughts in person or via email. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions, comments or concerns.
