Before attending the University of Dallas, I had the opportunity to receive training from the pro-life organization Justice for All and went to college campuses with them to have conversations about abortion. I found college students with good hearts who had been convinced by our culture that abortion was a form of real care for women. There were also students who did not know why life is valuable.

Living in this bubble of UD has been a great blessing for me. I love being able to have wonderful conversations about faith or philosophy without needing to start from ground zero each time. Of course there are diverse opinions at UD, but the majority of students understand that life is an invaluable gift from God and believe it must be protected from conception to natural death.

With the bubble, however, comes a danger: the danger of only pouring love into each other and not into those outside who desperately need us.

Matthew 5:14 says, “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.” My calves can say with confidence that UD is built on a hill. But we do not exist solely for our own benefit. Jesus did not just stay with his disciples, but He sent them out. We are surrounded by a culture of death, but you can be a disciple of life.

I know it can feel overwhelming to venture outside the bubble, but that’s just how Satan wants us to feel. So let’s do it together!

Crusaders for Life is collaborating with Justice for All to train students to have life-saving conversations about abortion. We just had our first training and are starting to go out to other campuses, as well as our own campus. It is never too late to join the trainings and dialogue opportunities.

If you’re interested but nervous, Justice for All has a simple survey for beginners to start out with. It gives your conversation a structure and teaches you how to listen and to talk to others who may have a different view than you do on abortion. Then you can go further into a dialogue about abortion if you wish, and the JFA training will prepare you.

I understand we are all busy college students and must choose how we spend our time prayerfully and prudently. Protecting the sanctity of life and souls from danger is a worthy cause.God can do a lot with a few hours a month, and He is never outdone in generosity. Our brothers and sisters on college campuses desperately need us.

While abortion may not be legal in Texas, chemical abortions and traveling outside the state for abortion are still realities. Furthermore, if we want Texas to stay pro-life, we need to continue to spread the pro-life message. Every election is an opportunity for worsening or improving the safety of the unborn and their mothers.

Let’s show our peers that we care about them and that we care about life. Come be a disciple of life. If you have any questions or want to learn about future apologetics opportunities, please email tmaska@udallas.edu.
