On Feb. 13 at a prompt 10:47 PM, the Rat’s outdoor patio began to pulse with an intoxicating beat. DJ Amaris was in the house.

Amaris Espinoza, promoted as “DJ Amaris,” made her TGIT debut with a roaring collection of 2000s and 2010s pop hits that ranged from Selena Gomez, Pitbull, Justin Bieber, Calvin Harris, Rihanna, Miley Cyrus, Bad Bunny and ended the night with Chappell Roan and The Killers.

With seamless transitions, high energy and a strong understanding of what would appeal to her audience, DJ Amaris made Valentine’s TGIT an event to remember. Espinoza had a particular skill in mixing songs of completely different genres, such as “Don’t Stop the Music” with “Murder on the Dancefloor,” and “Hot to Go” with “Mr. Brightside.” The subtle melody changes signaling a transition would send the crowd into a frenzy.

However, it must be noted that the freshman business major DJ did not reach this level of expertise from nowhere. She has been working as a Disk Jockey for the last 2 years, doing gigs around the DFW area.

In September of last year, Espinoza was interviewed by SHOUTOUT DFW. In that interview, she speaks on journey as an entrepreneur and DJ. The following are quotes she provided for that interview:

“What started off as a hobby and passion for music seamlessly turned into a thriving DJ business. I began to play at my family backyard parties and then playing from vendor markets, to quinceañeras, weddings and women’s conferences.

“It all seamlessly transitioned from a passion to a profession and it’s been very exciting and rewarding.

“Risk-taking has played a significant role in my life and career. I view risks as opportunities for rewards or valuable learning experiences.

“This mindset has been integral to my success, as I’ve never been afraid to put myself out there and seize opportunities. Networking and presenting myself confidently to others have been crucial in advancing my career.

“The most crucial factor behind my success has been a combination of relentless dedication, unwavering passion and the ability to adapt quickly and innovate.

“By staying true to my passion, embracing challenges head-on and cultivating meaningful connections, I have achieved milestones that once seemed out of reach to me.”

But even with all this incredible self-drive and passion, DJ Amaris would not be here without the support of her community: “I would like to give a shoutout to a community I am a part of called “She Spins Global.” We are a community of Female DJs where we provide resources like tips, create exchanges and provide templates for your business.

The founder of She Spins, “DJ Dawn,” was one of the first persons who I connected with when I began my career. I am forever grateful to have found this community through her and everything She Spins provided me with tips and even opportunities.”

Needless to say, the UD community extends a warm welcome to our newest DJ and can’t wait to see what she, and our other music groups, will do in the future.
