WOW, a new name!?
Prepare to be “WOW”ed, Blessed is She has been renamed! The women’s group on campus has been changed from “Blessed is She” to “Women of the Word” (“WOW” for short). The name was changed due to the women’s group slowly becoming its own organization, and drifting away from Blessed is She’s original style.
Blessed is She is a large organization that creates resources such as Bible study guides, daily reflections and small groups for women. UD’s campus ministry women’s group has become more unique to UD, with student-led talks and various recreational activities.
Yesy Castillo, former Blessed is She member and current campus minister, spoke about the inspiration behind the new name: “Because we started doing Lectio Divina with our Tea-ology night, that kind of sparked the idea… just like Mary, we should be Women of the Word.”
Women of the Word is a wonderful community; as a current member, what drew me to it was how relaxing and simple it was. There’s no obligation to come every week, nothing necessary to prepare, and the community is wonderful and sweet.
It remains one of the most peaceful parts of the week for me, whether I am listening to a talk, painting or making mocktails. (It helps, of course, that the snacks are some of the best on campus.)
Women of the Word meets most often for student-led talks, but when we don’t have those, we have recreational activities such as painting, movie nights, tea-ology nights and our beloved end-of-the-semester clothing swap. The schedule for events can be found on flyers around campus or in the many weekly emails.
This week, we have a Galentine’s party instead of our regular meetings. While the date to RSVP for the party has passed, Women of the Word will return to its usual schedule the week after.
Women of the Word meets at 8:00 every Thursday in Anselm 230. Ladies, come on over, bring a friend, and experience UD’s WOW factor!
